Relapse Prevention Group
We believe relapse is a process and not an event and as such can be identified, intervened on and prevented. We developed a course that is task-oriented to help the user to develop a personalized relapse prevention plan that can be completed in any therapeutic setting, including an outpatient educational group.
So if you are new to recovery, wrestling with relapse or wanting to improve the quality of your family life, our educational group can help because the course book that serves as the source material for the group is designed to:
- unravel the mystery of the relapse process so that any person recovering from an addictive illness can “see the relapse coming”
- provide the steps newcomers and old timers alike can take to increase their insurance against relapse
- serve as asource of hope to those who have come to fear that sobriety is beyond their reach
- aid readers in gaining insights into coping strategies currently being used that serve only to undermine their recovery efforts and cheat them out of the joy of sober living
Phases of a Relapse Process
Relapse is understood by many recovering people to be a progressive process despite the claims by some that they had no indication that they were in trouble and that they were “struck” with a compulsion to use addictive substances or engage in addictive behavior, and they relapsed without provocation or warning. The progressive process generates increasingly greater consequences in the form of physical, emotional and spiritual costs that build during one phase and seem to flow into the next like a tsunami before it crashes on land.
This graphic seeks to reflect the phases of relapse as being both progressive as well as inter-active processes. In this model, an individual’s movement through the relapse process will always result in a return to active addiction (relapse), if it is not interrupted.
If you have been struggling to interrupt your relapse process you can learn how to create your OWN personalized and individualized relapse prevention plan!

3. Intervened On: With the knowledge you gain from the course, you will be able to create interventions that are tailored to your personality.
