Event Description:
LCCS Co-founder, John Leadem, LCSW, MS, CSAT-S, CMAT has joined with Elements Behavior Health for a one week dinner and workshop tour of Arkansas and Oklahoma to network with and train local spiritual based counselors and religious leaders in better understanding of the disease model of addiction recovery and relapse prevention.
The program, based on An Ounce of Prevention: A Course In Relapse Prevention (John Leadem and Shawn Leadem, 2009) will provide participants with a framework in which pastors and clinicians will come to identify relapse as a process and not an event. The participants will be able to identify six phases in the relapse process that can precede a return to active addiction as well as a course of action that they can guide the addict and families members through to develop a comprehensive relapse prevention plan.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the process of relapse and the six phases that an addict will progress through prior to returning to his or her drug of choice
- List at least one intervention strategy for each phase in the relapse process that the addict can use to prevent a return to addictive addiction
